“Racing a single seater round Brands Hatch GP track was a bucket list race for me and it certainly delivered.
I decided to enter Classic Formula Ford (pre ‘82 cars) as well as Historic FF (pre ‘71 cars) as my Titan qualifies for both categories being a 1971 car. This would get me as much track time as possible as you can’t test on the GP track.
Qualifying was a baptism of fire having to push from the start on such a fast circuit. However I got my head down and was delighted to get P6 in Historic FF from 28 cars.
Classic formula ford qualifying was next and we found another second in lap time which resulted in qualifying P3 for the CFF race out of 26 cars.
HFF race 1 was a difficult race, having set the tyre pressures too low and suffering from lack of power out the corners. We fought hard but could only manage P8.
CFF race 1 was next and we managed to bring it home in P4 overall and P2 in class (pre’71), which was a great result.
HFF race 2 was the highlight of my weekend starting P8 and battling through to P2 securing fastest lap along the way. We had changed the carburettor for this race which seemed to improve the cars pull out of the corners allowing me to challenge for the top spot. Unfortunately it ended under safety car and I never got the chance to challenge for the win.
CFF race 2 was the last race of the weekend and starting P4 I was hopeful we could challenge for the top step of the podium. A good start go me into 2nd and then a furious battle commenced for the podium places, however a spin at Paddock hill bend resulted in an excursion to the gravel which unfortunately would result in the end of the race.
Despite this slightly disappointing end to what was undoubtedly my strongest performance of the year, I can honestly say that Brands Hatch GP track definitely lives up to its awesome reputation as and epic track to race.”
